This guide about installing HP Storage Essentials CIM Extension on HP-UX 11i v1. The following patches are the minimum prerequisites you need to have installed on the system, it may vary depending on the version of your OS. It may be that these are now obsoleted by newer patches, so it might worth a look for newer patches.

  • PHSS_26799
“Part of the normal operation of the HP Storage Essentials Common Information Model (CIM) Extension is to gather information from HP Data Protector for display in the HP Storage Essentials user interface and reports. The HP Storage Essentials CIM Extension performs this by periodically running a background collector responsible for gathering information from the HP Data Protector software. When the CIM Extension is installed and running on an HP Data Protector Cell Manager, the HP Storage Essentials CIM Extension can generate sufficient load on the HP Data Protector Cell Manager to slow down or disrupt HP Data Protector functionality if the Cell Manager processes a large number of backup sessions per day and the hardware on which the Cell Manager is running is minimally configured.” – HP Storage Essentials Common Information Model
    1. heck if the prerequisites are met, also check the documentation of CIM for the upated of prerequisites
    2. create a filesystem (/cim) for the SW, vg00 would be a good place as it is rather part of the OS than part of the application
    3. install it via swinstall: # swinstall -x mount_all_filesystems=FALSE -s CIM_depot.depot APPQcime
    4. create the config file with your customized settings –> /cim/tools/cxlog4j.properties
    5. chown root:root /cim/tools/cxlog4j.properties
    6. chmod 644 /cim/tools/cxlog4j.properties
    7. modify the file /cim/conf/wrapper.conf
    8. the CIM Extension can be started with # /sbin/init.d/appqcime start
    9. you can check if its running with # /sbin/init.d/appqcime status

    # /sbin/init.d/appqcime status
CIM Extension running. Process id: 2549
